SheetSonar

Track flight prices in Google Sheets

One row per trip, the cheapest Google Flights fare in the next column. Free template, no code, no API key.

Why a formula and not IMPORTXML

Google Flights builds its results in the browser, so IMPORTXML and IMPORTHTML get an empty page. Flight APIs work, but they need a key, a script and usually a paid plan. SheetSonar is a Google Sheets add-on that does the search for you and returns the price as a normal cell value.

Set it up in five minutes

  1. Install SheetSonar from the Google Workspace Marketplace, then open Extensions › SheetSonar › Get a free key. No sign-up, no card.
  2. Download the flight price tracker template (CSV), then in Google Sheets: File › Import › Upload, and choose Replace current sheet.
  3. Change the airports and dates. The fares fill in by themselves; a fresh search can take up to a minute (⏳ in the cell meanwhile). Cells showing #NAME? in a new spreadsheet: open Extensions › SheetSonar › My quota once and they recalculate.

The template has one trip per row:

From | To | Departure | Return | Cheapest fare
CDG  | JFK | =TODAY()+30  |              | =SONAR_FLIGHT(A2, B2, C2, D2)
LHR  | BCN | =TODAY()+45  | =TODAY()+52  | =SONAR_FLIGHT(A3, B3, C3, D3)

An empty Return means one-way. Dates written as =TODAY()+30 move forward every day, so the sheet never asks for a date in the past.

Useful variations

Keeping a price history

The formula shows the price now; it does not keep old prices by itself. To follow a fare over time, add a column per day: copy the Cheapest fare column, then Edit › Paste special › Values only into the next free column. A line chart on those columns shows how the fare moves.

What it costs

The free plan gives 20 results a month: one result is one route on one date. A price is kept for 3 hours, so asking for it again within that time is free; empty or failed searches are free too. The template has 5 trips, enough for a few checks a month. For daily tracking, Pro gives 1,000 results a month for €9.90. Plans.

Prices come from the public Google Flights pages at the time of the search and can change before you book. Always check the final price with the airline or Google Flights.
